Our Story
It all started in 1984 when aerospace engineer Peter Kuo grew frustrated with the low-quality ceiling fans on the market. Seeing an opportunity to make better fans, Peter designed and engineered the first Minka Aire ceiling fan in his garage in Cerritos, California.
This first fan featured aircraft-grade materials and was engineered for superior performance and reliability. It was also thoughtfully designed with clean, contemporary aesthetics to complement modern decor.
When Peter started showing his creation to lighting showrooms in the area, the response was extremely positive. Retailers were excited to offer something much higher-quality yet affordable compared to other available options.
With demand quickly growing, Peter officially established Minka Aire and set up manufacturing operations. Our first facility was in Walnut, California and consisted of only 5 employees.
As our reputation for unparalleled craftsmanship spread, Minka Aire continued expanding over the next decade. By the early 1990s we had over 100 employees and were shipping product nationwide.
Growth & Innovation
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Minka Aire experienced tremendous growth as we brought bold new designs and technologies to the ceiling fan market.
Some of our major innovations included:

- Wireless remote controls – easily adjust fan speed and lighting
- Swept wing blade technology – optimized air movement

Modern Manufacturing
As our company has grown, so have our manufacturing capabilities. We now operate two state-of-the-art facilities totaling 250,000 sq ft of manufacturing space.
Both factories utilize advanced technology and production techniques including:

- Automated assembly lines – efficient, high-quality construction
